Strangely Satisfying

Unpaid day off to attend my deceased aunt’s funeral home showing, dealing with little details on how my immediate family would handle things, laundry, yardwork, and a long bike ride to calm myself…

Online in the afternoon, listening to Michelangelo covering the DNC, wondering how I would deal with relatives I hadn’t seen in 20, 30 years…

A Flickr email arrives from an established, enigmatic urban explorer in Buffalo, asking for some location tips.  Of course I oblige.

Our meetup and trip to the funeral home, chatting with cousins, and trying to pry my usually wallflower sister away from the family.  Noted:  everyone who had been married was now divorced.  I felt an odd kinship with all the singles.  My aunt’s family always had this uppity moneyed attitude, though they were merely middle class with a clean home.  At the time it didn’t look that way from these poor, trashy eyes however.  No matter.  The funeral was the great leveler.

Back home, catching up with email, and listening to Bill Clinton lay it out.  Maybe things really aren’t so bad.
